I used a $35 vacuum pump to suck new fluid through the bleeder valve. It's also great for one man brake bleeding. Never had a problem and it's really fast. I'm pretty sure it has no negative effect on the system unless there's something special I don't know about this system. If so please reply. You could also get an extra top for the tank, drill a hole in it and glue in a valve stem. I had one for my 96 and it worked great with a bike pump like Bill said.
