Okay, so say I was hypothetically racing someone in a riced out Mazda 626 tonight (I know, racing on roads, bad for your health, spare me please. It was more of a "seeyal8er" than a race anyhow), and say that hypothetically after I blew past him and slowed down and forgot all about him, and resumed normal cruise speed, that he hypothetically came flying up on me. Then, say I hypothetically downshifted into second at about 70 (reflex reaction, but not very smart.) Say hypothetically that the transmission actually managed to synchronize at said speed and driver let clutch out.

Well, I felt something was wrong and watched the tach smack 7000, and I'd say the total time spent above redline was around 1.5 seconds, no more and maybe a hair less. Upon finding the correct gear (he still hadn't completely caught up), I actually verbally apologized to my beloved car and zoomed off again, and upon return home the engine sounds perfectly fine, runs fine, and the tranny for some reason still shifts fine. Have I caused "the beginning of the end"? I remember recently reading something on here about redline, and I am *not* one to *ever* exceed redline (hell, I almost always keep it under 5k, power drops off after that somewhat anyhow so what's the point.) Provided everything still seems normal, did my engine survive unscathed?
