Note: Forgive my lack of correct terminology. I'm not mechanically-inclined and don't yet know the names to all the parts. And also forgive the length.

I have a 1988 Saab 900 T. The engine is in excellent condition, but I was told I had a vacuum leak, which was why I was getting awful gas mileage.

Not being a mechanic, I didn't want to take chances, but being like I am...I did anyway. So I went to NAPA auto parts and bought some rubber tubing. I surmised that the bronze-colored cylindrical part on the top of the Left side of the engine (facing the engine from the front) was missing a rubber hose. Looking through the engine, I found where I thought it should go, which was on the Right side of the engine where another tube was missing, and when the car was on I could hear a hissing sound. So I hooked up a hose and the car ran smooth.

It was then I found yet another vacuum leak, on the other side of the 'T' shaped unit where I'd hooked up the first hose. Looking over at the turbo intercooler, I saw a plug, where someone had plugged on of the three openings up. I figured, being the only other place for a hose to go, I hooked up a hose from THAT, to the open vacuum tube (which was near the window-side of the engine about 1 foot away---Again, on the other side of this little 'T' is where I hooked up the hose going to the bronze cylinder on the top of the Right side of the engine.

Have I done this correctly? I think I might have, but I've come to realize that Saabs will keep on running even if you DO mess up. They're tough machines.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
