Yep, that's the right idea with that strategy. In fact, since I posted my first response, I drove to Hannaford's (supermarket) and some b#@%^ in an Intrepid tried running me at a light - it was a new Intrepid R/T 3.5. I took off with mild clutch feather so the turbo would have more of a chance to spin up, then at about 4000 I punched it, yanked my foot off the gas and shifted very fast to second. It was ahead of me until I hit second... and something I've never had happen before happened. The clutch hooked up perfectly and by the sounds of things both front tires broke loose (I know what one sounds like, and this sounded like two of them), and it wasn't a "chirp", it was a 3-second, very loud howling of tires in agony, and by the time that was over I was doing about 50. I didn't really wind it out in second because of the surprise of what happened and the fact that the guy in the Intrepid was like 3 car lengths behind. :0 My windows were about halfway down and at the next light he rolled his window down and said, "Holy sh*t, what have you done to that thing?!" I told him I hadn't done anything to it, which is mostly true, if you disregard very mild APC tweaking. However, all that fun aside, I was kicking myself the whole time I was in the market for beating the tranny like that, even though it wasn't really 100% intended to happen that way.

Definately use that strategy, but be prepared for something like the above to happen. I don't know why it did, but I'm sure it wasn't the best for the poor transmission. As long as you don't go popping the clutch at starts in First, and don't go full throttle all the way through first, you should be okay.
