Wish I had read the Bentley manual before purchasing the car. Well maintained by the PO, but at 114k some items needed attending: The harmonic balancer was shot (Many posts on this site), and the head-gasket had been replaced by one of the dealers. These are two items that are Saab specific, as opposed to problems that occur on any car of this age. Absolutely have the car checked by an independant Saab specialist mechanic, someone w/ a good ear for the sounds these cars make. On the test drive, hit the highway: 2900rpm + 5th gear should put you at about 70mph. 4000rpm will get you a ticket and the car will feel a little loose. (I'm guessing non-turbo.) The temp. gauge should not rise above 50% in highway driving. In stop and go it should go up to 60-65% and you should hear the fan come on. I'm rambling. Good luck!
