Well, I went there because of a coolant leak. My car decided to expell about a quart in the parking lot at work one day. I had been going to the local dealer for repairs but decided to give an independant a try. For obvious reasons $$$. So...found Mecca on this site and I took it up to them and they diagnosed it as a head gasket. The system must have pressurized and a pinhole leak in one of the hoses caused the coolant dump. One of my cylinders had been burning coolant.

I didn't have a problem with the diagnosis, cost or anything like that. Chuck is very nice. But....within 4 months the head starts weeping oil on the back. Now it is also weeping down the front of my engine.

I had the head done on my convertible at ABJ and 1.5 years later...not a drip anywhere. I was worried about this one too because the car overheated catastrophically in Providence traffic one night. Thought the head was garbage. It turned out to have some pitting on the block also but...they did a great job with it.

The head that Mecca did was perfectly fine otherwise...car never overheated and no pits....so you think out of the two that would be the one to stay dry.

Long story short....I shouldn't imply that they do bad work...I never gave Mecca a chance to make good because by the time the weeping became noticable I thought it was too late to go back and say anything...ABJ noticed it and told me about it....my fault. This was over 2 years ago now....I didn't know as much about cars then as I know now...

I do know that I have never had to go back to ABJ for anything that they had done. All of them are very approachable and it's not a typical garage atmosphere. They love old SAAB's and I just get the feeling that they are not out to hose me. I've spoken with other people that kind of feel the same way about Mecca...."Chuck is real nice but"...their workmanship sometimes is sketchy...maybe some of his guys are not that experienced? Obviously...my "other people" really give no credibility to my opinion...I can't quote sources or anything but....this is all just my opinion anyway.
I'm not out to badmouth them....I've just had better experiences elsehwere. When you can completly trust your mechanic with the car...that means alot to you. Hope that sounds fair...

Todd
