now my UK 87 eight valve none turbo (about as basic as u can get) 900I automatic dosnt have any ECU or cat on board..

i am on about thru the range mixture adjustment.. there is a pretty obvious and well known adjustment screw near the fuel distributor but i am pretty certain this only affects the idle settings.. ie.. it dosnt have much affect over the engines entire rev range..

now on some other board.. a porche one i think.. i came across a reference to a thru the range mixture adjuster.. there is no mention in my haynes manual about this but my logic tells me that a thru the range mixture adjuster needs to exist..

anyay this thing was said to be on the back/fuel/pressure warm up regulator valve.. looking at mine there does seem to be a blanking plug that might be covering an adjuster.. its just under where the two fuel pipes go into the valve.. i would have to remove the valve and take it apart to make sure of this thow..

has anybody ever fiddled with this "possible" mixture adjuster on the none ECU controled 900s.. or earlier 99s come to that.. ?????

i want to try and tweak my car a little leaner thruout its range.. just to try and sqeeze an extra couple of miles per gallon out of the beast.. it might not work but the only way to find out is suck it and see.. he he.. the signs suggest my car could go a little weaker or to put it another way my car is running on the rich side of optimum as opposed to the weak side.. there is a fair amount of leeway as regards running too rich before anything other than poor fuel economy shows up.. something like 20% i think..

i seem to remember a formula that went vaguely like this.. starting say from an efficient 12 to 1 u can richen things up by 20% for a 5% gain in power.. good for out an out power but not good for fuel economy.. however u cant go far the other way before rough running symptoms show up such as flat spots etc..

the best i can get mileage wise outta my (admittedly auto box car) is 24 miles per imperial gallon on a long run.. this would be something like 20 miles per US gallon.. my car runs very nicely its just the poor fuel economy that i aint over keen on.. he he

UK gas cost a little more than the US stuff does by the way.. 20 UK pounds (30 US dollars) per 150 miles is a rich mans game.. he he.. i aint rich..
