I also have an 85 SPG but have an aftermarket unit, and looked into this. What I was told, if the head unit was not specifically made for a changer interface, it won't work for other than an fm modulated unit. This is what I went with. I mounted my changer in the trunk -- down next to the spare tire, but had to put it low and facing towards the bumper so that the lid would close due to the tool kit. I installed a Sony unit, and the install was not bad, other than I could not find a wire that was continuously hot while the ignition was off -- in the bundle in the trunk. I ended up running a wire up to the aftermarket unit and tapping into its wiring. There are several wires in the trunk that are continuously hot while the ignition is on. Give me an email if you need more info. I'm in San Diego area.
