then leave the stock box in. i too, jumped on the wagon and followed the majority, only to lose low end torque. one thing i have found here, a majority moves one direction and then there is a stampeed, even though the path may lead in the wrong direction. unrestricted cold air is the issue, not open filter in a hot engine bay. i have seen filters in the wheel well, but they require cutting through strucutral members in the crumple zone of the car. i didn't want to do that either so i don't blame you. wassab worked a little with setting up a cold air duct from under the car. he posted his results here. i have also seen someone cut slits in the bottom of the engine bay under the filter and then bend them to scoop and direct air up into the filter. there are may different ways to get cooler air. imho, however, until you remove the heat inputs from along that path, you won't be getting the best benefit. just my thoughts.
