I have a 1988 900s manual 4 door. I have a hunting idle that hunts inconsistently, in that sometimes it won't hunt at all sometimes it will hunt, somtimes when it hunts it varies by 50-75 rpms, sometimes it varies by 300rpms. Also something i forgot to mention before was the Car would stall sometimes right after starting up, and sometimes when it was hunting the car would stall out because the rpms got so low. I have searched the archives on idle problems and have tried and examined everything suggested with the exception of checking the grounds. Lots of vacuum hoses have been replaced, the AMM seems alright, the TPS seems to be fine, the vacuum canister seems to be fine, can't remember everything else...

Now the other day the check engine light came on for a brief drive so I pulled of the road and checked under the hood because we had just replaced the two main drive belts, and one was a lot looser than the other one. Those were fine, and nothing obvious seemed to be the problem. When I started the car back up the check engine light didn't come on and hasn't since. That is also the first time i have noticed it come on.

So with that in mind does anybody know how to pull the check engine light codes. Also checked the archives for this but none of what was said worked. According to the manual there was supposed to be a connector by the power steering resevoir on the passenger side but there was none. However, under the rear seat there was an 8 pin(i believe) connector like some people had suggested in their posts. Although, some people had said the connector under the rear seat was for 89's and newer. Anyway we tried pin three and it didn't work. Also does anybody know the process or pulling the codes. If i remember correctly, we turned the car to the on position(not start), flipped a switch to ground the socket and nothing happened.
