Distributor plug broken off... what to do?

To anyone familiar with with this problem, I'm sure the picture below says it all... in the process of putting in a new thermostat in '88 900 turbo I managed to break off the hall effect sensor plug on the distributor. So, I am left with a broken plug and 3 little wires coming out of the distributor.

I have read through many many postings on this, and I think I've come up with the following options:

1) solder 3 new very short little wires into the sockets then twist together and solder these onto the wires coming out of the dist, tape with electric tape. I'm concerned that this is not a good long-term solution

2) purchase a distributor rebuild kit for $125 that includes a new connector. rebuild the distributor. Is this feasable for an amateur backyard mechanic?
-or-
3) try to purchase a new connector separately. still need to take apart the distributor to install it.

4) find a used distributor. may run into same problem (crappy old connection on plug). and still have to take old one off and install it.

5) have car towed to Saab repair shop. can they fix this cheap or will they just want to sell me a rebuilt distributor?

Just looking for thoughts on which option I should take, and if anyone wants to share their experience rebuilding the distributor.
