You would not believe how familiar that sounds. I am a electronic tech, I've fixed t.v.'s, vcr's, monitors, cameras etc, and I could tell you some horror stories of crap I've fixed after fluids have been spilt into them.

Yes, the acetone might be the best to clean the gunk away but 2 things may result afterwards.
1. You may be left with weakened connectors after the corrosive action of the drink may have taken it's course or,
2. The acetone might weaken the plastic connector body leaving you with poor reliability with the connector as a whole.

What I suggest, if the connectors are in good shape, is to soak the connector in metho, ( this may take more time but the solvent is not so aggresive on other bits you want to preserve!) and use an old toothbrush to clean the heavier stuff off. (If you are so abled, you can actually remove the individual wire and connector from the connector body but you need to be extremely careful not to damage the locking tabs in the body.)
Can you get the box apart? If I remember correctly, you should be able to bend some lugs and remove the card from the box. If so, it will probably need cleaning as well.
Once you are happy with the state of all the bits apply a good amount of weather proof grease to all the connections to help with the conductivity when it's all back together. The connectors will now have less than perfect surface contact points and the grease is used to help any oxidisation process in the future.
So it's so long winded but faults will come back from time to time where contamination such as this is involved.
