Sorry Matt, you should probably just stop squirming and start planning a new gasket job... It's not the end of the world. My '88 900T used to pressurize the cooling system, but Only when it got really hot or I'd used a lot of boost. I was skeptical too because there was no dramatic evidence of mixing oil/coolant, but now that I have the head off I think I can see (I'm no expert) which cylinders were leaking compression. Altho I definitely got bubbles, my reservoir would overflow, and I had to quickly burp my thermostat (there was a LOT of air there) every time to stop it.
As for the turbo, I have the impression that dying seals tend to leak fluids out rather than air in, and I dunno what water pressure is supposed to be at a given RPM, but if you guess 9-15 PSI as a ballpark for substantial boost at speed then I believe oil pressure is supposed to be at least twice that anyway so No, you're reaching here... If the coolant pressurizes instantly then the turbo hasn't even spooled up and you're still running with a vacuum in the intake anyway; compression can Only come from the cylinders at that stage.
Just be glad you're catching it before the head warps or pits, and know that by taking it easy and driving cool, I was able to nurse this along for the year it took me to find a space in which to work on it. Of course it was a year of VERY boring driving.
