Hello,

Been reading a lot on this forum and on Dana Arenius' website, and have found a lot of very useful information. But I would still like some help with my problem.

I have a 1985 Saab 900 turbo. On cold starts, idle drops to under 800 rpm and engine runs very rough, maybe on 3 cylinders. Furthermore there is a very loud clicking sound coming from around the thermostat-housing/cylinder 3 or 4. The problem gets even worse in wet circumstances. Driving the first minutes is very uncomfortable, but once the engine warms up a bit it runs better. After some minutes of stuttering, it switches back to 4-cylinder mode and runs perfect!

Since problem first started occurring on wet mornings,I thought it was an electrical problem. Have changed distr.cap, leads and spark plugs and charged the battery. Pulled out the plugs several times, they are quite black and sometimes very wet.

That indicated rich fuel consumption. I would like some help locating my problem, so I can decide what action to take. Based on what I've been reading on this forum, I've done the following:
- pulled out a spark plug lead, result no start and engine flooded. no. 2 and 3 very wet.
- pulled out plug to cold start valve, result no start and engine flooded. Engine starts fine after drying up the spark plugs.
- tested the thermo time switch, 40-40-0 ohms when cold, 74-73-146 ohms when hot. should I get a brand-new one from Saab?
- mixed a bottle of injector cleaner into the fuel tank.
- replaced grommet on camcover since it was broken, thus I closed the vacuum at that location. (turbo pressure is lower since then as well)
- found a warm-up regulator (is this the same as the FPR fuel pressure regulator?) at scrap yard, read that that might be my problem. can change that part if that is the problem.
- could take off the hoses to auxiliary air valve and spary in some WD40.

Can I solve this problem myself, or does my car need a a set of new injectors and a Saab-mechanic?

Look forward to your responses. Let me know if I have not been clear in my description.

regards, Wilmar
