if done for the first time you should remove the diff cover.
no problem, just get new gasket.
why? there's a mesh filter and a magnet attached to the cover. both should be cleaned. remember to use Locite on every screw.
SORRY THOR, but with point 1 you're totally wrong. you can do what you want (if not rebuilding the trans completely): 1/2 litre will stay in the box (caught in the primary drive). so you only get 2,5 litres out, that's around 83% (and far away from "all").
that's one reason why you should change the fluid a second time after some miles. then you can use the sucking method.
