Just swaped my inner drivers on my 87 900 NA 5 speed. Just followed the directions on the Townsend website. Passenger side inner drivers went on the drivers side, driver side went on passenger side. I now have no vibration on driving as I did before. Since I did not have a spare driver to use to keep the spider gear from dropping in the tranny case, I just used a wooden broom stick with duck tape(yes, good old duck tape to the rescue!) around the broom end to mate up with the spindle grooves in the tranny case.Townsend does not mention this technique, but he should cause it works great! Just pushed the wooden broom handle into the tranny case to keep the spider gear in place and it worked like a charm!I used my shop push broom that has a wooden handle that just unscrews from the broom. I then used a big rag in the a-frame(where the drive axle goes thru the car frame) housing to keep the broom stick handle straight an "in the hole" on the tranny case. I then put the driver side inner driver in as per instruction and it went in prefectly. Went to passenger side, removed broom handle, and installed pass side inner driver as per instruction. Worked like a charm! I strongly recommend the broom stick method,just measure the end of the inner driver to make the right size of broom stick end(approx. 1 and 1/8 inch). This is not that difficult of a job for a DIYer and it removes the worry of the spider gear dropping. Try it, it works! BTW, if you need new inner drivers, eEuroparts.com has the best prices on them (around $90) and has free shipping.
