Help with electrical gremlins

1987 900 turbo convertible. One problem has been around a while and the other is new.

Problem 1: When I step on the brake pedal I get volts dropping from 13 down to 10 or sometimes wild fluctuations down to zero - this looks like a short circuit to me. The radio shuts off and loses it's programming when this happens. Occasionally the engine will actually stop running. I have cleaned up the tail light ground in the trunk on the cross member in the trunk floor. Are there other grounds back there to check? The alternator has a voltage regulator with less than 3,000 miles on it. I am wondering whether the brake light switch could be defective and be shorting out? Any ideas on what to look for?

Problem 2: Today out of the blue when I put the key in the ignition and turned it to start the car there was no power whatsoever. After turning the key back and forth several times I got power. This happened three times. Coincidentally (or maybe not) the clock in the instrument panel stopped working. All other gauges operate fine once I get power, including the 3-gauge panel of accessory gauges (volts, oil pressure, outside air temperature). Could this somehow be related to problem 1 or is my ignition key cylinder coming apart?

Help!! It's convertible weather and I can't be forced to drive my truck this weekend!!
