I'm pretty sure that the SPG panels are the same as the bumpers and bumper trim on my '88 900TC. They are painted black plastic. If the scratches are superficial, you can just use some rubbing compound to buff them out. Then wash and wax them.

I recently had to fix some peeling paint and deep scratches on my front bumper. What I did was sand down the deep scratches and prep the peeling areas with 500 grit paper (I removed the chrome strips first). Then I used a can of SEM 39273 'Charcoal Metallic' Spray Paint to paint the affected areas. Just remember to put on several VERY LIGHT coats so that you don't get any runs, wait 5-10 minutes between coats. At the painters supply house where I got the paint I was told to wash it really well with soap and water and not to bother with the special plastic primer some people say to use.

It turned out looking really good, almost too good. Now I have to think hard about doing the back bumper VBG!
