I don't know about 900 speedo's but most I've seen use magnetic drag to pull the needle up against a light counterweight. It cannot be a direct mechanical connection because that would basically be a clock and couldn't stay still any amount of time. A spinning magnet attached to the speedo cable inside a close but not touching can attached to the needle. So it could easilly be that wacked. Sorry
