The very early ball joints on the first 900s are slightly different (they were superceded by the newer style) - I have photos but cannot determine how they differ internally or dimensionally. The tie rod ends were also different up until the mid 1980s - on one parts website it says not to mix an old with a new tie rod but you can use two newer ones on a car originally equipped with the older style.

I assume that the tie rods are a different length, which is why they should not be mixed old/new. But I don't know for sure. I also don't know how the ball joints are different.

Anyone know???
