Scott, That clunk going into third (if it's coming from the tranny) would most likely be the rear drum clutch applying with a thud because its accumulator is out to lunch. The slow second gear app. is the second band failing to grab either due to a hurtin servo, a loose or worn band or a sticky valve in the valve body. At 110,000 miles any of those things are possible although it's usually more like 150,000 miles before these units start to exhibit problems. Any unknown history? Previous owner? Depending on the cost where you are the first thing to consider is getting it serviced. Have the ATF and filter changed (use only Type F)and drain and refill the final drive with gear oil. Many times fresh fluid will make those little valves, servos and accumulators slide like they should again. Type F fluid has "friction enhancers" and as they break down clutch plates and bands may get less of a grip than they need to, so again, fresh fluid may help. It is possible to tighten the bands after removing the rear bottom cover and (depending on the cost) it may be worth a try, but tightening a burned or worn out band won't really help. If this tranny has been hit hard on the bottom that can dislodge one or more of the many pipes inside the unit and cause performance problems. It takes a hell of a hit though so see if the bottom covers are severly dented. You can put new rings on a servo or accumulator from below but it's a big, unpleasant job. If this gearbox is coming out It's worth considering whether you would rather have a 5 speed and compare that to the cost of getting and installing another automatic. There are very few shops/people who can reman. a T-37 right, so procede with caution there. Many posts on this topic here too. Good luck.
