Sorry, I have to disagree.

The convertible door panels and the coupe door panels are the same height--I measured. The convertible door panels indeed have shallower pockets. The TOP edge of the pocket is the same distane from the top and bottom of the door panel on both convertible and coupe. However, the BOTTOM of the pocket on the convertible is 2" from the bottom of the door panel as opposed to 1" on the coupe. The reason that the coupe door panels won't work on a convertible is that the bottom of the door panel is thicker. Being thicker, it contacts the higher door threshold. The convertible has a high door threshold because they had to put additional support in that area to stiffen the convertible frame. When the convertible door is closed, the door panel is actually up against the outside of the threshold (that's why it needs to be thinner at the bottom). When the coupe door is closed, the bottom of the door panel is even with the threshold. I have one convertible and one coupe door panel in my car at the moment and they both have the same appearance when the door is closed except that the coupe panel protrudes outward more at the bottom. If you weren't looking for a difference, you'd never notice it.

This being said, I'm using 1994 convertible panels in a 1992 coupe. There may be a difference on earlier convertible door panels. Without having one on hand, I can't say.

I used convertible panels because they have leather caps and armrests on them. The door cards inserts are a different size than the one's on the original panels in the car which do not have the leather accents. I'm not sure if they are different because of the leather, or because of a size change over the years.
