I never assume that a spark plug is going to come from the factory gapped to work with my car. And I don't know how it has been handled.
Rule 1 - check the gap on a plug every time, before you put it in the engine. I don't care if it is new, or just came out of the engine. I check them even if I just put it down - I can't be sure I didn't hit the electrode.
Rule 2 - Set the gap to the spec listed in the manual or on the decal in the engine compartment. Set the gap to the LOW END of the range. The gap increases with age.
Rule 3 - Spark plug gap is CRITICAL. Too wide a gap, and the engine will misfire under boost. In the turbo engine, too wide can be 0.03 if the spec is 0.028 max. I have even seen non turbo engines misfire with the gap just a little too high.
Rule 4 - follow rules 1 through 3.
Don't eyeball the gap. Nobody can tell by eye the difference between 0.025 and 0.030. Get an inexpensive plug gapper - heck, get 3 - and keep them in the toolbox and the glove box.
