As Hans says, it is very doable with the engine in the car. Heck, you can change the timing chain with the engine in-car.

Yes, while you're at it, replace the oil pump O-ring and the main seal. The oil pump has the crankshaft running right through it. The oil pump has the main seal where the crankshaft comes out, and the O-ring is where the oil pump mounts to the timing chain cover. With the Crank pulley (aka Harmonic Balancer) off, the oil pump is right there.

The two difficult issues are getting a socket onto the crank pulley nut, and then getting the nut loose. Some folks have ground a socket down so as to give the most clearance between the pulley nut and the firewall.

I've used the 'Townsend method' for loosening the nut - it was on a 9000, but it's somewhat similar. It's well described in the Townsend write-up. It uses the starter motor. What's important to know is that it isn't the cranking of the motor, it's the impact. So set the socket well on the nut, make sure the breaker bar is set, and then just hit the starter real quick. You'll hear a bang. Don't try cranking a lot - just one bang. Then with the key out, go back under and make sure the socket is well set on the nut. Check to see if the nut is loose - if not, repeat. Don't be tempted to crank the engine a couple of times without checking the setting of the socket on the nut Each Time - if the socket gets a little off, it'll start rounding the nut - bad news. This takes a little patience - I've had to crank, check, crank, check, up to 15 times. Hey, it beats brute force. Once the nut gets loose, it is surprising easy to spin off, and the pulley usually comes right off, too.
