I just did this myself last weekend. You have to get the shifter shaft inside the housing in the right position, play around between 3rd and 5th gear and just kind of jimmy the the housing around enough to get it over to get at those screws. I think I forced it a little to get clear the "ears". Also if you take the center console out you can loosen the floor air duct that comes down over the shifter shaft and that will give the shaft a little more room to wiggle around.
