Last night, I got into my car and found the clutch pedal went straight to the floor with barely any effort at all. Tried starting the car, and it went straight backwards. (Believe the master cylinder finally died, as CMyles warned me would happen).

Had to call a tow truck. The driver showed up with a flatbed truck. Here's where things get ugly. Because my car was facing uphill, there was no way to get it out of reverse. I tell the driver not to force the lever, as that might simply break it. So the car was pulled up and forward several feet onto the truck ramp, WHILE in reverse gear. As this was happening, the front wheels seemed to sort of "ratchet" forwards, and then spin backwards in place, every couple of inches. Then, the wheels simply rolled forwards.

This all kinda worried me, but I figured the driver knew what he was doing. Still, once the car was up on the truck, I asked him "I wonder how the wheels move forward like that while in the car is in reverse?"

"Oh, it was in reverse?" Not the answer I was hoping to hear.

So, should I be freaked out about something terrible having happened to the car? How can the wheels move forward like that while in reverse gear? Seems like something's gotta give - like teeth being torn right off in the tranny? Or - better I suppose - maybe the clutch slipped to allow forward motion?
