Yeah you may just have a really blown out head gasket (but I think it is bent valves). Fixing a problem like that is much less work than swapping engines and much less money. Look closely at the single tooth in each cam sprocket that mates with the notch in the cam shaft. I have seen the tooth sheared off on one occasion and that let the cam get out of time and bend valves. I suspect that was caused by someone turning the entire engine by rotating the cam with a wrench (don't do that).
