Brake and clutch master cylinders fail for one basic reason:
Lack of regular fluid changes (every 2 years minimum, esp. for ABS cars) allows water to be absorbed into the fluid (Brake fluid is notoriously hygroscopic). The fluid sits in the MC for a while, and eventually, the water settles out, to the bottom of the cylinder. Here, rust begins to form, pitting the metal bore. Eventually, the seals are either eaten away, or can no longer seal the growing pits in the bore.
Yours leaks out the back because the main seal leaked enough past it that the clutch return action pushed the rear cap off the MC.
So putting a new seal in a pitted bore will either a) not work at all or b) work for a while, and then you're into the same problem all over again, in six months, maybe a year.
Yes, a rebuild kit is about six bucks, and a new (NEW!) Master Cylinder is $128.35 (both prices from site sponsor EEuroparts - the hose is $58.90), but if you put the new one in, you'll not be touching it for another 20 years, and maybe longer with regular fluid changes.
But the reality is that a six dollar slave repair probably won't work at all at this point.
