After taking a heat holiday(100F plus here)from last month's car no start problem, I am back on the issue. I pulled all the fuses and still have some bleading voltage to the battery.
I then disconnected my battery red and alternator loop connector wires and yellow spade wire at the starter as the starter did have a fault in the solenoid (which I replaced). but now still have voltage leak.
I had previously opened up the shifter box to replace that ignition switch and was pretty sure (as I took a picture of the ig switch lug/wiring)was reconnected correctly. My doubts was/have been where the(lead pencil type) pin that fell out of somewhere belongs. I looked at the old ig switch but didn't see a deep enough "socket"/receiver( non-lug side) for it to slide into -just a plastic nib in the middle of a -0- with 2wings shaped hole for the key's "teeter totter" lever to push on the nib in the middle of the -0- . I also wonder what position the lock out lever sprockets need to be in. Should the shifter be in 3rd gear or reverse position when doing all this.
On the passenger side, on the engine's side wall there's a 2 stud/bus connector - the big red cable from the battery goes to the foreward most stud and then there are 2 small eye loops and one larger/thicker wire eye loop that connects to the aft stud. I removed the 3 wires and then attached the 2 smaller loop to the stud- no leakage of current!!!!! then I removed those 2 and attach the large loop to that stud by itself - and I have a leak of voltage again.
I am not sure what that large looped wire connects but that seems to be the line where I'm leaking voltage and I suspect that's what is causing my no click on the starter ( yes it does jump start when hot wired from the + battery direct to the starter's lug where the yellow wire normally conects. Does this go to the ignition/shifter case with the ignition switch?????
It could be that the new ig swich is somehow bad or wired wrong- I have the old one- am thinking to disassemble the shifter box and return the old switch to see what happens. I'll also reinspect as to where that "lead pencil" type pin might belong... Also wondering if the orientation of the ig switch has something to do with it - but the 2 holding screws are in - can't believe I put it in 180 wrong as I would have found the wires not mach up to my picture's orientation and the wings on the -0- wings would not have lined up with whatever it may have needed to mate with.
What are your thoughts especially as to the leak wire and where it goes.
Thanks for you help and....... patience
