I've got a couple of those + all they really need is a 4th gear...
I agree with Cmyles that it is not at all practical... and Justin + Jon's comments/photos show probably the most practical route (if you consider cramming a V6 into a 92 "practical", holy smokes! cool though)... the c900 geometry is just so different if you want to keep the engine stock... I have kind of wondered though if there was a way to do new castings to house a robust modern automatic transmission (like from a 9-5) under there, but I suspect that (ignoring the massive amount of work) there would be dimensional problems associated with a tranny designed to fit in transversely underneath... then there are the "interface" problems (minor in comparison)... so much easier to convert to a 5 speed!
but... it would be cool to see! you should do it + report back! ;-)
