Putting turbo dist into non-turbo c900 to sub for CPS Posted by The Noob Eternal [Email] (#3049) [Profile/Gallery] (more from The Noob Eternal) on Tue, 21 Aug 2012 14:03:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Many months ago I asked about dealing with a faulty crankshaft position sensor (CPS) in a non-turbo 1989 c900. (Is the Flivver doomed?) Hans helpfully suggested:
"You can use a Turbo distributor instead of replacing the crank sensor on your car. The Turbo distributor has the Hall sensor inside it, whereas the dist. on your car is hollow. You need a dist. from a 16V 85-93 Turbo (or 86-87 NA), plus a bit of the wiring harness from the donor car, that is, the plug and a couple feet of wiring. Splice the old crank sensor wiring to the donor wiring, install the distributor, set the base timing to 14* BTDC and drive. The signal is the same as your crank sensor. Do not use the vacuum capsule that comes on Turbo distributors."
Finally, finally, both sloth and the scarcity of parts have been overcome. I'm ready to install the turbo distributor. But, um... how? Neither Bentley's nor a web search reveal where to attach the wires. To make it easier to explain the locations, I've added labelled photos of potential sites to my gallery, http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/members/gallery.html?memberID=49.
