I had a problem with the top (broken eye-bolts), so I was opening and
closing it manually while waiting for the parts to show up. Not that
hard to do standing in the back. To do this I'd turned the valve
accessible from the trunk to bypass the pump.

The part shows up, I work all afternoon to replace it, finally try
to run the top down using hydraulics, everything clicks and whirrs but
the top doesn't go down. Arrg. Bad words. Lock it up and walk away in disgust,
and get halfway back to the house and realize I left the valve in
the bypass position. My son thought it was pretty funny.

Compared to the next generation tops, it's a very simple and reliable
system with a nice manual-mode backup.
