The first VR-brush assy. I replaced, I also was PO'd and installed allen head screws instead.

Then I read on here the tip to do R&R with everything in place, using a "cabinet" (extra-long-shank) screwdriver.

As I recall it just gets past the oil pressure sender. It doesn't make it square on to the screw but is close enough. Tap on the end of the handle of screwdriver with a hammer as you turn, that will crack screw loose, and also keep tip down in the screw and not slipping out. Then once cracked free screws spin right out. On reinstall, oil the threads, and tap again as you finish tightening.

You don't loosen alternator or anything else. Might want to take negative terminal off battery first, don't want to short alternator positive to ground.
