Wow, thanks. It looks like you cut the carpet? That's what I'm thinking of doing only slit it down the center below the DIN console so it would be invisible when everything was put back together. Got the rest of the shifter console out and the carpet under the drivers seat back up to expose the bundle directly under the shifter console (not yet up to where your photo shows). Put a flash light on the bundle and looked it over well. Can't find any damage. Wiggling and pulling the bundle and some individual wires (mimicking the movements of the bundle when I did the floor) didn't fix anything. You know it might be the ignition switch itself? Since I got some dust/sand in there during the floor replacement. Also sprayed contact cleaner into the switch while manipulating the key. Didn't work either. Do people spray WD40 in the key hole or might that gunk things up? So now it's getting dark and some plastic over the open window will have to suffice. I like my distinct seasons, but CA or FL sound pretty good about now (and it's not even Winter yet!).
On the plus side, that new fuel seems to have done the trick. Starts up and idles and revs fine. Though strangely, when I press and hold the brake pedal the RPMs go down about 200 and slowly recover unless I pump the brake and it doesn't recover until foot off pedal. But as I recall it did this regardless of if my wiring problem was "fixed" or not. At least that's something I can live with.
