Jeff,
Sorry to hear about your experience.
I'm a longterm Saab guy looking for a 2nd car to drive around Brooklyn and have been following the Staten Island dealers' listings as well as another place's in North Jersey. I figured it was one or the other because they both seem shady.
If you can't work out something with the seller, then you should contact the New York State Attorney General's Office and the DMV. Particularly given the text of the ad and that he shipped the car to you in Chicago. They take this kind of thing seriously in NYC.
It also might help to have an attorney local to you draft a letter.
After my own search, I'm starting to suspect that a lot of these seemingly "clean" low mileage cars were punted off by their owners because they had too much wrong with them, despite that they were regularly washed/waxed, and that shady dealers are buying them for very little, making minimal repairs, and selling them online for a hefty markup. Particularly now that they're getting rare and popular.
