No ladies and gentlemen, this is not the guy or gal on your dorm floor that was Dr Feelgood...."The Forgotten Connection" is what I'll call the two wires on the coil.
During lots of posts and interactions regarding keeping connections clean and grounds maintained, TPS, AIC, and distributor connector hygiene, the lowly coil connection or "The Forgotten Connection" hasn't been mentioned.
So, I became acquainted today with "The Forgotten Connection" when after some months that seem like years, I've been searching for the last thing on the list of 27 that keeps the engine from running perfectly. The kind of thing that makes you wonder if the timing chain is off a tooth, or the fuel pump is challenged, or all the "Remembered Connections" were solid and mantained, the AMM renewed, as well as ECU, and countless parts and time spent to find the gremlin that is making the engine challenged at idle, but nothing so bad as to keep it from running.
Personally, I thought the car ran well, and since it was the winter beater, it serves itself through the thick part of the year, and does it well.
But, today when testing an external tachometer for the race car, I unplugged the two connectors on the coil, fiddled with them and then wound it all up, tucked it away, snuggled down the 10mm bolt and started it. No minor shaking, and strained feeling .... calm and smooth. Going from William Dafoe to Paul Newman in a heartbeat.
So, now "The Forgotten Connection" has been added to my list of "Remembered Connections" along the path to making sure that the 27 things add up to a new running car. You pick the other 26........
Cheers.....this one has been waiting for a long time to show it's ass....and now it's mine:-)
