I checked the wiring diagram in the Bentley manual and the brake light is a very simple circuit. There are no relays, no controllers involved; just the switch, lights, fuse, and connectors.
Do you have voltage at the brake light switch? If not you need to trace that fault, without voltage it's obviously not going to work. If that checks out OK, jumper across the switch and see if you are getting voltage at the tail lights.
The rear lights on these cars are notorious for ground faults, but if the other lights are working I would think that's unlikely to be the problem. The way to fix the ground problem is to connect a wire direct from the chassis to the ground side of the bulb assembly.
If the problem turns out to be a fault in the wiring harness the simplest thing to do would probably be to wire around it, putting in a new circuit from the brake light switch to the lights.
