I posted a small album (fuel smell?) of the space behind the passenger side vet where that evap canister lives just above the fuel filler neck.
Saabsite has a drawing (under emissions) of the fuel vent system. It looks like the line travels (behind the hatch hinge plate?) through the drivers side inboard gutter (under the headliner) to the charcoal canister in the drivers wheel well. Thanks for that tip.
I stick to my original theory. If the Saab is moving then "jet stream" flow at the passenger vent louvre will deliver the fuel vapors escaping from that location into the cabin. Heck, even the charcoal canister or throttle bottle could blow it (fuel vapor) back while in motion too.
I don't understand how fuel pump packing that has deteriorated would be any more noticeable while in motion then at idle.
Of course I'm often wrong. :-)
