That is a plastic bushing, it looks like a small top hat or like a split sleeve with a washer on one end. Without that the shift control shaft will move around and can cause shifting problems. The Saab part number is 87 11 608, I don't know about availability. It is a common part to ALL C900 five speeds so if you can find a broken unit it will have that bushing in it, I'm all out of good used ones. Try to dig out all the pieces of the old one and then slip the new one in with the split on top. It goes in so that the washer part is against the seal. If you drive the new seal in too deep you might break the bushing.
