Everything is connected properly so.... I got to thinking.
I replaced the dash fascia (neglected to mention it) with the older silver trim style but the temperature control (heater bypass valve) and the servo vent select (air distribution valve) switches had been robbed of their interior hardware and I pilfered cage, spring and ball from my original fascia. That being said... the knob can only go in one way but what if I had shut the bandit (Saab) down in the 11'oclock (floor) position and reinstalled the knob in the 12'oclock (defrost) position!?
That would explain why 6'oock position doesn't shut off the vents like it should and instead gives me a full blower speed cause it's actually in... 7'oclock position.
