The Bentley book is my Saab bible. Mine is stuffed with printouts of additional charts and instructions I've gathered from a number of sites. Jumpering the fuel pump has nothing to do with the key. You just hook up a switch between those terminals in the fuse box. As for emptying the tank, I'm going to need three more jerry cans if I do it now!
By the way, one of my little treasures is an old check valve. I forgot which part of which Saab I salvaged it from, but I took out the innards so it's just a plumbing fitting now. It directly replaces the banjo bolt that takes the fuel feed line to the rail, and has a male fitting on the other end that you can hook up to a hose. The fuel pressure test gauge that Harbor Freight sells has a bunch of adapters that are all useless for this car, so being able to hook it up to a hose with a clamp is invaluable. I use it for the fuel-pressure meter for testing, but I could just as easily use a longer hose for evacuating the fuel.
I've had some weird electric-loss incidents on this car. There's certainly corrosion around the main chassis ground point at the radiator crossbar. I've wirebrushed the ring terminals, bolt and socket. In fact, I did that the same day of the fuel-loss incidents. Do you think that could be connected?
