Thanks. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get in there and have a look-see sooner or later. I'm procrastinating as the damned car is running just fine at the present. There are a couple of problems I need to fully address before I go bathing in gasoline. (I hate working with raw gas!) First, there's a serious exhaust leak at the flanges of the downpipe, ahead of the O2 sensor, thanks to a muffler shop that welded the pipe up to the catalytic BEFORE bolting it to the header. It was cocked just enough to partially blow out the gaskets after a few months. I've scabbed up a temporary repair that's holding for now, and the car is running way better, but that's going to need reworking. Then, there's the issue with the main ground point being all corroded. Many of the wires have rotted at the ring terminals. I need to rewire all that. THEN, if the problem doesn't come back, I get to keep my nose out of the gas tank. Otherwise, god bless Autozone for having free loaner tool sets, including one for pulling submersible pumps from Audis, BMWs, etc., which should do the trick nicely. Considering the pumps are under $20 at rockauto, I'll probably buy a new one ahead of time just for grins. There's less than 30K miles on the one in there now, but I'll be damned if I'm going to get covered with gas for nothing.
