So - Probably did it wrong based on what I have read here but at least it is much better than what I had. Thanks for the tips, everyone.

I definitely should have spent more time on smoothing it out as it is ever so slightly lumpy in the middle. I didn't think it was that far from being smooth, but guessing since I went with black it is showing up more too.

One thing I would pass on is not to put too much glue on. I had one spot early on that soaked through when I pushed down on it a bit. I know you want to make sure you have enough, but this was too much.
