thanks for the input. I guess if one allowed the pressure to build up and then unplugged the pump, the number of pumps before the lights lit would give you a rough idea of the remaining nitrogen charge in the accumulator. At least on the later system it is not so critical as you still have a mechanical connection from the pedal to the brakes, albeit not assisted. On the earlier systems (Citroen and RR) there is no mechanical connection between the brake pedal and the brakes, and the pumps are run by the engine, so if you have depleted nitrogen levels and the engine dies, you have no way to stop the car except the hand brake. Try that with 6500 lbs of angry British steel at 70 MPH!
