These come pre-painted black over which you can paint whatever color you want. Good wear as any good quality rotor.
Not knowing your experience with replacing pads and rotors -- you do good research on the basics, and I consider this an EASY job -- make sure you clean the anti-corrosion factory oil from the rotor surfaces with brake cleaner.
Bedding pads isn't an involved process. 02Pilot has the best advice. I just keep in mind I'm bedding my pads as I use my car for the first few weeks in service.
Calipers could be an issue as they loosen up with age. Definitely replace all hardware (not necessarily the calipers -- late models last a long time) and grease the slide pins on the fronts.
IMO your mechanic should NOT have reused the old pads. Who knows what else was reused.
