You will be happy to know that you can have that unit rebuilt by an outfit in San Jose California. I recall it was about 150 apiece, I just had them do three of them. I think it's called Power Booster Exchange. Send yours in and they send it back -- there is a chance they have cores, the last time I checked they didn't.
Be careful removing it, don't mess up the plunger, that is attached to the brake pedal. If that breaks, your core is toast as they don't have all the parts to rebuild them. Ask them to paint it, if you want to have it back that way. Otherwise, it just comes somewhat naked, needs to be protected.
I had to use the 86 to repair my 1989, there aren't any parts to rebuild those unfortunately.
