I sent it off just now. I won't tell you what I decided so that you will all look tomorrow.
The kicker is rust. It has it, it's repairable (have you seen some of these body shop guys fixing these totally rusted out 900s?) but I don't want to do it.
And, thanks everyone for responding. I did some searches to and Justin van Abrahams et al said it best basically: value is what the individual purchaser thinks it's worth.
Strangely, if you look at the two last posted 900s there is a rather cherry 1984 for $950 that looks rust free but the next one is not roadworthy but he wants $800. Go figure!
I based my calculation on a couple facts:
1) You could drive the car criss-cross across North America, from the Arctic circle in Alaska to the Florida Keys, from St. Johns to Baja California and then take the ferry over to drive it to the Cambrian Gap down by Panama. It's that reliable. I've driven it in 27 states and 3 Canadian provinces.
2) Part out value for transmission, 8-valve NLA parts, decent seats (actually very nice), headlights (have you looked at the crappy ones you get for $150 on eBay?), tail lights and all the bric-a-brac that everyone wants from these cars and you are on your way to $1200.
3) I've got tons of spare 8 valve parts that are included: WUR, cold start valve, fuel accumulator and more. You can't buy these, they don't make them anymore.
4) And, everything works.
That having been said, I'm hoping someone who just loves 8 valves will buy it and keep it on the road. Who knows.
I was just looking back at the binder of receipts for repairs and parts: I've replaced almost everything except the engine over twenty years.
Hope this car makes someone happy. Maybe it's their lucky day.
