Hello Saab community
I used to come here frequently for help with keeping my favorite fun car on the road. I no longer have time nor the will to keep it going. I received so much generous help here (Roger D and Friend in particular!!) it seems fitting to gift it to whoever might want/be able to help it move on to the next phase. The car is located in Arcata, CA (far northern California 1.5 hours from Oregon border on the coast).
What's right: Newish 5sp transmission--this was replaced by the previous owner at 95K miles. Car only has 135K on the odometer! Shifts flawlessly except once in a great while making a grinding sound going into 5th. So long in between times, in fact, that it always surprised me when it did happen. The engine is great and strong. Tires OK. Suspension relatively tight compared to some I've test driven. Top goes up and down flawlessly, though the beige top has several small wear and tear holes and is less than beautiful these days. Body is straight and to my knowledge rust free.
Not so good: The tan interior is well worn. AC and cruise do not work. An annoying exhaust smell intermittently enters the cabin, something I've spent much time and $ trying to track down and have been unable to solve.
Really, this car was a blast to drive up until the last problem. I had just spent many hundreds of dollars replacing rear main seal and some other oil related gaskets, when a really big oil leak developed. The car is leaking oil at an alarming rate every time it is driven, so much so that I have not moved it in many months. I bought a newer convertible in the meantime, and I'm just done putting money or time into the car. No, I never drove it dry and I believe the engine is fine. Yes, it will need to be fixed before moving, or towed to it's next home. I will not be smogging or otherwise putting any more $ into this car. If there are no takers amongst the Saab community then it will be going to the salvage yard, which in a way would be a shame because I don't believe it's far away from being somebody's very fun car if not their shiny special classic car.
I hope, because I'm offering to give the car away, that it's okay to post here instead of paying for a classified ad. Moderators please let me know if this is not the case. If you are interested I can be reached at ammabhakti@gmail.com
