BUMPING my 2+ year old post.
SO, I've got the failed 900 clock spring removed. Sure enough, the ribbon cable has delaminated up near the termination on the OD. When those conductors ground to one another, bad things happen.
It's time to retrofit a 9000 clock spring..... either that, or attempt to butt solder the broken termination. I've got to investigate that possibility. I know the manuals say these CS's are designed for 3 turns lock to lock..... from memory, our C900's don't turn that far, so perhaps there is unneeded ribbon cable in the core.
Thoughts? There are several 9K springs on eBay in the $100 range, plus adaptation time.
