Hi TimN
What I have done in the past to a broken sender is to reassemble it drill 2 or 3 holes (not sure which) through the aluminum and the top "cap" then put some rivets in it. If you look at the underside of the cap you can see where they would best be placed.
I think doing this to an intact sender would greatly improve it's life. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the of the proper placement relative to the top to do this to an intact sender.
I could fish mine out and then mark the top where the rivets should go but since you have it out, perhaps you could look and mark the top and post a pic so others can do the same if they wish.
Just a request.
I have a broken fuel gauge that's been that way for months now. The low fuel warning light works but the needle doesn't move. I tried to tighten that screw on the back but cant really get to it. It actually seems to be recessed in the bracket (in addition to being a PITA to reach) and would require me removing the entire cluster which I also don't really enjoy.
Good work on the tool and being able to do it through the speaker!
